Rain or thunderstorms in Guimaras today; strong winds possible Thursday and Friday

Guimaras can expect cloudy skies with rain showers or thunderstorms today, Wednesday, and strong gusty winds may reach most of the Visayas on Thursday and Friday as Super Typhoon Rosal (Champi) passes far to the north, according to PAGASA.

PAGASA Visayas PRSD's 5:00 AM forecast for Guimaras: partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rain showers or thunderstorms, temperatures of 27 to 32°C, light to moderate winds from the northwest to southwest, and slight to moderate seas.

A Thunderstorm Watch issued at 10:00 PM last night said thunderstorms are more likely over Guimaras and nearby provinces within 12 hours. There is no Heavy Rainfall Warning at this time. PAGASA's extended outlook for Guimaras expects moderate to strong southwest winds and moderate to rough seas on Thursday and Friday.

As of PAGASA Tropical Cyclone Bulletin No. 4 (5:00 AM today), Super Typhoon Rosal was about 990 km east of Northern Luzon, with maximum winds of 215 km/h near the center and gusts up to 265 km/h, moving west-northwest at 30 km/h.

Wind Signal No. 1 is raised only over parts of Northern Luzon and Catanduanes. There is no wind signal anywhere in the Visayas, including Guimaras. PAGASA said the northeasterly windflow and the outer edge of Rosal may bring strong to gale-force gusts to most of Luzon and the Visayas on Thursday (Oct. 22) and Friday (Oct. 23), especially along coasts and in high areas. Rosal is expected to come closest to Extreme Northern Luzon on Thursday to Friday and leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday night or Saturday morning.

This is a forecast and may still change. Please follow PAGASA and the Guimaras PDRRMO and MDRRMO, and don't trust posts without an official source. Bring an umbrella, and fishers and Jordan–Iloilo travelers should check the Coast Guard advisory before sailing. Stay safe, everyone!
